VALERE POWER LAUNCHES DC POWER SYSTEM THAT LOWERS COSTS
IN REMOTE BROADBAND AND WIRELESS TELECOM LOCATIONS
PATENTED NEW TECHNOLOGY CUTS POWER OPERATION COSTS
BY 50%

RICHARDSON, TX - Apr. 07, 2003
- Valere Power today introduced the Integrated Power System, an
expandable DC power distribution system that can dramatically cut power-related
costs for remote broadband and wireless telecommunications equipment locations.
Based on Valere's patented power conversion technology
that is 50% smaller and emits 35% less heat than current technology, the
Integrated Power System reduces energy, cooling, management and maintenance
expenses resulting in a cost savings of up to $4,000 for an average location.
The Integrated Power System conve rts AC power into
either 24 or 48VDC at up to 600 amps and manages power distribution to
telecommunications equipment and battery-based backup systems. The system
offers enough current to power larger remote locations serving up to 5,000
telephone lines, but also offers a one-shelf chassis for use in smaller,
high-growth locations that need an expandable entry-level solution.
"Wireless and broadband network rollouts are
causing a proliferation of remote sites and refocusing carriers' attention
on the need for reliability and cost reduction in these sites," said
Greg Fasullo, vice president of engineering and CTO for Valere Power.
"The savings that can result from using the Integrated Power System
can be very dramatic and can add substantially to the profitability of
a remote location."
REDUCING MAINTENANCE COSTS
The Integrated Power System offers one of the first
system controllers with capabilities for configuring and managing both
the power system and the battery back-up system. System status and configuration
and battery status can be monitored via Valere's Web-based management
application, can be integrated into a global network management application
based on the simple network management protocol (SNMP), or can be remotely
downloaded using Telnet or FTP.
The Integrated Power Supply is NEBS Level 3 certified
and features up to two power shelves and two distribution modules. At
24 volts, the system offers 300 amps per shelf (600 amps total), and at
-48 volts it offers 250 amps per shelf (500 amps total). It can support
up to five modular power rectifiers per shelf that are redundant and hot-pluggable.
It is available in both 19" and 23" rack widths.
The Integrated Power Supply works with Valere's new
V1500B and V2500A rectifiers. The rectifiers provide 92% typical power
conversion efficiency, a 20% decrease in power loss compared to the industry
norm for rectifiers. This efficiency reduces thermal load, which improves
the reliability and availability of the system. The V1500B outputs 24
VDC at up to 60 amps, the V2500A outputs -48 VDC and offers up to 50 amps
of current. The rectifiers are fully redundant and hot pluggable for replacement
or maintenance without any down time.
PRICING AND AVAILABILITY
The Integrated DC Power System is available for immediate delivery with U.S. list prices starting at $3,500.
